Formula E is set to debut the all-new Gen4 race car in the 2026/27 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. This fourth-generation machine marks the sport’s most radical leap yet, being faster, smarter, and more sustainable than anything that has come before it.
The most important upgrade is in the car’s power, which takes a massive step forward. With 450 kW of race power as its base output and an explosive 600 kW (815 hp) in Attack Mode, more thrilling overtakes and closer battles can be expected. Regenerative braking has also been boosted to 700 kW, capturing more energy than ever before. Combined with a 43% increase in race energy capacity, now up to 55 kWh, teams will have greater flexibility in strategy and more freedom to push the limits.
Perhaps the biggest revolution is the arrival of Active All-Wheel Drive, a first for open-wheel racing. Unlike the Gen3 Evo, where AWD was limited to specific phases, it is now active throughout the race to deliver improved traction and agility. Unlimited traction control and ABS allow drivers to attack corners harder, while new aero packages let teams fine-tune for high or low downforce, balancing speed and efficiency.
Beneath the aggressive silhouette lies an environmental conscience: 100% recyclable construction with at least 20% recycled materials, which is double that of its predecessor.
