Every Brick Counts
Full-size LEGO McLaren 720S at Goodwood

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is taking place from June 29 to July 2 this year, and McLaren and LEGO have teamed up to bring along a life-size LEGO version of their McLaren 720S. The coolest part is that the project is not fully completed yet, so festival goers will be invited to help finish it.

The incomplete 1:1 model, built up around a steel frame and requiring more than 267,300 LEGO bricks to just reach the stage it’s at so far, has been delivered to the Goodwood grounds for visitors to add over 12,700 pieces of orange bricks in designated parts.

The finished model will weigh over 1,450 kg, which is amusingly much heavier than the actual 720S, weighing in at 1,283 kg. What’s more, a team of six LEGO builders spent over 2,000 hours on the model, compared to the 12 working days it takes to assemble the road-going equivalent. The model will share one feature with the real 720S though – all-new Pirelli P Zero CORSA tyres with silver ‘Pirelli Colour Edition’ graphics.
