Enzo’s Last F1 Car
1987 Ferrari F1/87 Formula 1 race car

No elaboration is needed on Enzo Ferrari’s influence on Formula 1 racing, for which he was leading the winning team under his name for decades. The F1/87 design was the last Formula 1 car constructed during his lifetime, and the example shown here, chassis serial ‘100′ was the 100th F1 challenger built since the continuous sequence of chassis serial numbering was introduced in 1961.

Powered by a 1.5-litre turbo V6, the F1/87 was first developed by Austrian engineer Gustav Brenner and later legendary British designer John Barnard. This chassis first raced in the Hungarian Grand Prix at the hands of Michele Alboreto. Bonhams will be auctioning this rare gem at the Monaco sale taking place on 11 May. Estimated at €650,000 to €850,000, the F1 race car would need mechanical re-commissioning for future racing since it has been stored in a climate controlled lock up for years.
