Papier Machine

There are lots of DIY paper projects on the market that the user can simply purchase and create small items with, but not many deal with electric circuits and look approachable and appealing at the same time. Developed by three designers from Paris, Papier Machine is a booklet that contains six interactive electronic paper toys.

The designers have been working on Papier Machine for three years. The project received a laureate from the Red Dot Design Award and the Audi Talent Award in 2016, and was exhibited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris and Maison&Objet to good reception. The team actually developed over ten toy concepts and only six are featured in the booklet, including Resistance the Piano, Gyroscope, Playing Track, Wind Sensor, Writing Track, and Tilt Switch. The paper is printed with special conductive sliver ink that acts as a circuit, and the user can alter the sounds created by the toys by filling specific areas with pencil as graphite is conductive too. Each paper toy is pre-cut and pre-folded for easy assembly and comes with a manual and other required materials like button cells and metallic marbles. The project is seeking backers on Kickstarter and delivery is expected starting from July.
