Electrifying Le Mans Concept
Tesla T1

It’s only 2017, but we’re already thinking about 2030. A group of students from IED Barcelona who created a concept electric race car for the 24 Hours of Le Mans circa 2030 – the Tesla T1.

Their Tesla T1 concept sports a futuristic, streamlined look, four electric motors and a 70 kilowatt-hour battery to store energy. Each motor would produce the equivalent of 335 hp, giving the Tesla T1 powertrain 1,340 hp and a monumental 1,770 lb-ft of torque. The students estimate the Tesla 1 could reach a top speed of 410 km/h.

The IED students envision the T1 with a pair of tyres at each corner, with an airfoil placed between them. As the car speeds around the circuit, the air moving over the car would spin these devices and generate electricity. A high-tech airfoil called a Gorlov Helical Turbine would also be tucked behind the driver to harvest even more energy.
