Dystopian Rivalry
Death Race 2050

Cult filmmaker Roger Corman is legendary for his Edgar Allen Poe adaptations and all manner of cheap thrills and bloody spills, as well as his nurturing of young talents before they later turned into legends in their own right. Think Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese and James Cameron, to name a few. For car maniacs, the crazy vehicles featured in 1975’s Death Race 2000 starring a young Sylvester Stallone, would be an extra talking point.

Corman is bringing the notorious drive and kill classic back, serving as the producer this time around. The new version, Death Race 2050, shares the same main plot. The race is not a competition of speed; instead the contestants are rated by how brutally they hit and destroy pedestrians. Definitely not a world that we would like to live in, but it does allow the creation of some absurd yet amazing vehicles for the viewers’ pleasure.
