2017 Heuer Carrera Ronnie Peterson Special Edition

A new and limited Heuer Carrera re-edition is reviving the brand’s connection with Formula 1. Swedish race driver Ronnie Peterson, more well known as ‘SuperSwede’, was a household name in 1970s being a two-time runner-up in the Formula 1 World Championship. Sadly he passed away after his Lotus was involved in a serious accident during the start of the 1978 Italian Grand Prix.

As reported by Calibre 11, TAG Heuer is launching an re-edition of Ronnie Peterson’s Heuer Carrera watch. The original, 1158CH Carrera in 18K gold, was given to Peterson by Jack Heuer in 1972 and featured the second generation Carrera case that debuted in 1969. The re-edition design has followed through from the 38 mm case, with the Milanese strap and details such as the fluted chronograph pushers.

Interestingly, the new release includes two versions. The steel chronograph, limited to just 40 watches, is sold exclusively in Sweden. There is also a gold watch, which is even more true to the original and with only one example made, it will be auctioned in early 2018.
