Hay & IKEA Unveil the “Ypperlig” Collection

IKEA has teamed up with Danish design company Hay for a capsule collection titled “Ypperlig” (a Swedish word for “good, excellent”). The Ypperlig collection was first announced during IKEA’s Democratic Design Day event in Sweden last year and will be released in October 2017.

Based on the first batch of images just unveiled by IKEA, the collection is a perfect fusion of HAY’s and IKEA’s sensibilities, as well as combining the materials, colours and production techniques of the two brands. The collection consists of more than 30 pieces, ranging from furniture like sofas, tables and shelves, to small accessories including vases, candle holders and blankets. Meanwhile, Hay has also redesigned the iconic IKEA shopping bag “Frakta”, replacing the original blue and yellow colour palette with forest green and white tones for a more long-lasting new look.

While the full pricing list has yet to appear, we know a three-seat sofa-bed will cost £550, with £275 for a two-seat sofa, £85 for a shelving unit and £35 for a bench. With Accessories ranging from £1.50 to £18, it looks like the entire collection will be a part of IKEA’s low-price strategy.
