YASHICA digiFilm Camera Y35

Many people are still fond of film cameras because of the level of manual control and variety available: the image ratio, ISO value, colour tone and characteristics of the film are just some of the elements that contribute to a unique image. Plus, the mystery  of not knowing how the image translates until the film is developed and holds a certain romance.

Japanese camera brand YASHICA has been quiet for quite a long time but recently it awoke once again to unveil something that has never been seen before. The digiFilm Camera Y35 is a digital camera that includes “digiFilm”, an additional and interchangeable element to be inserted into the camera, for users to shoot in different image styles just like the old days with conventional films.

The design of the digiFilm Camera Y35 is based on the brand’s classic model Electro 35 from the 1960s. The Y35 is equipped with a 14 megapixel 1/3.2-inch CMOS sensor and a 35mm f2.8 fixed focus lens. As there is no LCD display on the camera, the user must rely on the traditional viewfinder, while images are saved onto the SD card and can be only be viewed afterwards. Currently the brand has developed four digiFilms, namely ISO1600 High Speed, Black & White, ISO200 Ultra Fine and 120 Format (6×6). Like its conventional counterparts, each digiFilm comes with a specific ISO and distinct style. The Kickstarter project reached its goal within four hours and delivery is scheduled for April 2018.
