Dieter Rams, Documented
“Rams” by Gary Hustwit

American independent filmmaker Gary Hustwit has been working on a documentary about German design guru Dieter Rams for years, and it is finally scheduled to release later this year.

Known for his “less but better” design principles, the 85-year-old designer has left remarkable footprints in the field of product design with his iconic work at Braun and Vitsoe in past decades, creating iconic coffeemakers, shavers, stereos, calculators, speakers, alarm clocks, and the famous 606 shelving system.

The documentary, titled “Rams”, was launched as a Kickstarter campaign in 2016. It will include in-depth conversations with the 85-year-old designer and dive deep into his philosophy, process and inspirations, which will also cover the topics on consumerism, materialism, and sustainability.
