BMW designed passenger capsule interior for Virgin Hyperloop One

BMW Designworks has collaborated with Virgin Hyperloop One to create the interior of its new passenger capsule. The full-scale prototype was shown to the public at City Walk Dubai as part of UAE Innovation Month.

The transportation system of the Virgin Hyperloop One, formerly Hyperloop One until Richard Branson became the chairman last December, is based on the “open-source” concept from Elon Mask. The passenger capsule is electromagnetically propelled inside a vacuum tube and its speed could reach up to 1,080 km/h. Travelling between Dubai to Abu Dhabi would only take 12 minutes, and currently Virgin Hyperloop One is negotiating with the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai on the next stage of development.

At such rapid travelling speed, there are no windows inside the capsule and passengers would need to be seated throughout the trip, which means the physical interior design is crucial for passengers’ overall feeling during the journey. BMW Designworks ensures the environment would be uplifting and engaging with lighting, sufficient space for each passenger and premium comfort. Particularly in First Class, the adjustable leather seats have integrated heating and cooling. Each passenger would have a touchscreen for personalised entertainment and personal settings on brightness and colour (from blue to pink) for a sophisticated experience inside public transport.
