Group B Evolved
Ferrari 288 GTO R

Glorious Group B racing only lasted for a few years – from 1982 to 1986 – before being cancelled in 1987 by the FIA after a string of fatal accidents. It wasn’t around for long, but we have Group B to thank for rallying’s most legendary cars: the Audi Sport Quattro S1, Ford RS200 and many more.

The Ferrari 288 GTO however, just missed the boat. Group B was cancelled after the car had been developed, but before it started racing and we never got to see it driven in anger on the WRC rally stages. Designer Zoki Nanco has shared his vision for the 288 GTO on Behance and named it the ‘Ferrari 288 GTO R’.

Unlike the Evoluzione that followed the 288 GTO, Nanco’s concept is complemented with a number of aerodynamic changes, from the front splitter to massive rear diffuser, not to mention the almost out-of-proportion rear wing. While there is no close up shot of the interior, at a glance it seems that in addition to the roll cage, the interior of the car stays pretty close to the original.
