Renault R5 Turbo 3E Concept Car

Renault is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Renault 5 with an all-electric show car. Designed for drifting, the R5 Turbo 3E can be described as the “electric rebirth” of the historic flagship series, and it pays tribute particularly to its sports versions Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2.

The all-electric R5 Turbo 3E is built for pure performance and tracks, with rear-wheel drive for all the drifting actions. The first thing you will notice of the car is the massive rear spoiler. The overall shape is same as the its predecessor but the body is now made of carbon fibre, with updated iconic air inlets on the rear fenders. In addition to the square fog lights, there are also pink, blue and yellow LED strips that flash during drifting.

R5 Turbo 3E maintains being a two-seater. Built on a tubular chassis, at the rear is the powertrain with two electric motors that generate 280 kW of total power and 700 Nm of torque, and the 42 kWh battery packed in the middle under the floor. The R5 Turbo 3E has a 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 200 km/h.

Racing element including carbon fibre racing bucket seats, safety harness and steering wheel from Sabelt1,  as well as FIA approved roll bars can be found in the cabin. Plenty of bright colours popping around the interior. While the original Renault 5 Turbo 2 has 10 analogue dials in front of the driver’s dashboard, its electric version now features 10 small 10 digital screens instead.

R5 Turbo 3E has made its debut at the Chantilly Arts & Elegance 2022 contest and will face a wider audience in the Paris Motor Show later this month.
