Classic Livery Lessons
Sean Bull Design

The Le Mans 24 Hours race has introduced us to many iconic racing liveries that have become so recognisable that we can identify the teams simply through different colours schemes and designs. For instance Jaguar’s purple and yellow combination, the Porsche 917’s orange and blue Gulf stripes and the beautiful dark green of the Bentley Speed 8.

Imagine if one could take those classic liveries and drop them onto today’s current F1 cars? Sean Bull Design has already done just that, overlaying the iconic sports-prototype themes onto new 2016-17 F1 car models. His colourful concept drawings confirm our belief that great cars demand equally great liveries. His outstanding work includes the gold and purple Silk Cut Jaguar theme, as well as the tricolour of Martini and green and orange Renown grid from Mazda. Sean Bull Design’s work seems to suggest that for today’s F1 to regain popularity, its teams need perhaps learn some lessons from these classic endurance racer liveries.
