A Self-contained Universe
Central Illusion by Zsolt Hlinka

A series of architecture-based photographic works entitled “Urban Symmetry” has been spreading across the internet recently. After the photographer has photographed a specific building, he uses aftereffects to deliberately remove the background and the architecture from his image. He then outlines the subject matter, whereby a symmetrical and comforting sense of aesthetic is induced for the viewers. This Budapest-based photographer is called Zsolt Hlinka, and his works are often based on the city. Created with his surprising point of view, it embraces for a dream-like landscape.

Zsolt Hlinka recently released “Central Illusion”, a series of images which depicts the light focused architectures in the darkness. The architectures depicted are usually created under a grand classical and neo-classical style, which also gives off a sense of symmetrical aesthetic. He said that, “The works are not objective: light and darkness are creating a dramatic contrast in the pictures, whereas the absorbing blackness of the surrounding buildings is adding ominous depth to the space and closes the buildings depicted in an independent peaceful dimension. The unflinching symmetry of the photographs is reinforcing out-of-time illusion better; as if every piece of the series created a self-contained universe.”
