1959 Mercedes-Benz O 319

The Mercedes-Benz name is associated with luxury cars, but it is also a producer of quality buses and trucks, especially back in the 50s. the O 319 bus was first introduced in 1955, featuring a front engine layout and “forward control” cab with a large greenhouse.

The O 319 example seen here has been fully restored and fitted with a modern Mercedes-Benz engine and automatic transmission, while the paintwork is faithful to the factory colours. Its previous owner, a computer engineer, restored and upgraded the bus and modified it into a camper over a period of 15 years. Plumbing and electrical work including centralised circuit-breaker panel and lighting for every cubby and compartment upon opening are added to making the bus “liveable”. Inside the cabin there is a sink, stove, refrigerator, storage space and a double bed at the back. A solar panel is also fitted for jaunts into the wild.

The retro camper will be available for sale in the RM Sotheby’s Arizona auction taking place on 18-19 January.
