Ferrari's V8 wins International Engine Of The Year Awards

Ferrari’s latest 3.9-litre V8 engine is the heart of the 488 Pista. At the 2018 International Engine Of The Year Awards that just took place, the finely tuned engine was given four awards, while the automaker brought home six in total — the best record any manufacturer has achieved in a single year. In the 20-year of history of the event, Ferrari received 27 trophies in total, again a record for any sports car company.

“In the 488 GTB, the 3.9-litre eight-cylinder was a near-perfect example of a high-performance turbocharged engine, setting the bar so high that it swept aside rival powertrains,” said Dean Slavnich, co-chairman of the IEOTY Awards. “But redeveloped and tweaked for the 488 Pista, the best engine in the world just got better. Without doubt, we’re looking at an engineering masterclass from Ferrari. No turbo lag, beautiful delivery, raw emotion, a furious growl and so much power — this Ferrari V8 is a work of art.”

This is the third year a Ferrari 3.9 V8 engine has nabbed the Engine of the Year award, receiving 486 points from 68 international judges and 288 points more than the second place. Additionally, it took the 3-litre to 4-litre class, the Performance Engine category and was voted as the ‘Best of the Best’ among all the winning engines over the last 20 years. The naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12 powering the 812 Superfast was another winner from the event, receiving the Above 4-litre class and the Best New Engine awards.
