McLaren and Sparco develop lightest FIA-certified race suit

In addition to the ultra lightweight hypercars, McLaren has extended the company’s weight reducing technique to the field of racing suit making. Collaborated with American motorsports apparel and accessories company Sparco, the Sparco McLaren SP16+ race suit is the world’s lightest FIA-certified race suit and has been worn by McLaren F1 Racing Team drivers since 2016. Best of all, it is now available to the public and is hand-made to order.

Each SP16+ race suit requires 12 hours to create and is hand-made in Italy. To keep the weight at minimum, the race suit features ultra-slim zip, seamless Nomex wrists and ankles, reduced neck and shoulder pads and even the stitching is completed using ultra-thin thread. At the same time, it is made by fireproof material for guaranteed safety, and is breathable and comfortable to wear. In size 52 (as modelled by race driver Bruno Senna) SP16+ weighs just 590 grams. Other complementary items for completing the full gear include underwear balaclava, McLaren Bell HP7 helmet, McLaren Shield RW-9 underwear top, McLaren RB-8 racing shoes and McLaren RG-7 racing gloves.
