Last year, Bertone announced it would revive the iconic Autobianchi A112 Runabout concept car as a limited edition. The Italian coachbuilder has now released images of the 2026 Runabout finished in Verde Smeraldo, and it’s nothing short of a timeless masterpiece.
The original Runabout, penned by Marcello Gandini and unveiled in 1969, drew inspiration from ‘60s speedboats and Italian futurism, with its bold wedge-shaped, boat-like profile and nautical cues. The new Runabout retains those fluid lines and signature pop-up headlights.
Replacing the original 1.1-litre engine, the 2026 model is powered by a 3.5-litre supercharged V6 producing 460 hp and 470 Nm of torque. It sprints from 0–100 km/h in just 3.06 seconds and reaches a top speed of 300 km/h. A six-speed manual gearbox preserves the analogue driving experience, while double wishbone suspension, three-way adjustable dampers, and adjustable anti-roll bars deliver precise control.
Inside, the Runabout pays tribute to the original’s maritime roots with a nautical compass, leather trim, and analogue simplicity. A minimalist steering wheel and aluminium accents enhance the retro, nautical-inspired aesthetic.
The Bertone Runabout will be offered both as an open-air Barchetta, like the original concept, and as a Targa with a removable roof, with production limited to just 25 examples worldwide.
