HWA EVO to enter 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours

HWA is bringing the legendary Mercedes 190E back to the racetrack with a motorsport version of its street-legal HWA EVO restomod. Marking the 190E’s first return to competition since its DTM heyday in the 1990s, the new racer will debut at the 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours. HWA founder Hans Werner Aufrecht, who co-founded AMG in 1967, played a key role in Mercedes-AMG’s DTM involvement, and the original 2023 HWA EVO tribute already caused a stir among enthusiasts.

The Nürburgring holds special meaning for the 190E — when the track reopened in 1984, it hosted a famous one-make race featuring legends like Stirling Moss, Niki Lauda, and Ayrton Senna, who took victory in a 190E.

The road-going HWA EVO is powered by a Mercedes-sourced 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 making 450 hp and 550 Nm, paired with a six-speed manual. While specs for the race version remain under wraps, development is underway with input from DTM veterans Roland Asch and Klaus Ludwig, as HWA prepares two cars for the SP-X class.
