Fifty years since the glorious and historic 1-2-3 outright victory at Le Mans in 1966, Ford has announced their return to the French endurance race with not just one, but four Ford GTs. “It was great to see all four Ford GTs up there on the Le Mans entry list today,” Dave Pericak, Ford Performance global director, said in the press conference in Paris. “Newcomers are by no means guaranteed an entry, whatever their history or ambitions, so we thank the ACO for giving Ford the opportunity for a four car assault in June.”

The Ford GT racing car is based on the all-new Ford GT supercar, but modified to survive the demand of the endurance race. The two Ford Chip Ganassi Racing cars that run in the FIA World Endurance Championship will keep their race numbers 66 and 67 for Le Mans. The other two that compete in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will change numbers, from 66 to 68 and from 67 to 69.

The configuration of the driver line-ups in the WEC cars as well as the identities of the third drivers for all four Ford GTs will be announced when it is closer to the race, which is scheduled on June 18-19.
