New motorsports paintings by João Saldanha

We introduced motorsports-focused artist João Saldanha last year with his Macau GP Legends collection of acrylic on canvas paintings, and the Lisbon-born painter has recently finished some new pieces.

One of the most memorable scenes of the 1990 Macau Grand Prix was the rivalry between Mika Häkkinen and Michael Schumacher. The competition was fiery, and their clash on the last lap sent Häkkinen off the track and into the wall, while Schumacher continued and won the race. Saldanha’s painting captures the moment right after the accident, with Häkkinen’s F3 car running towards the side and Schumacher with a damaged rear wing. The painting was recently shown at the Motorclássico event in Lisbon next to a model of Schumacher’s winning Reynard 903. Another of Saldanha’s new pieces features a close-up of the stunning and legendary Ferrari 330 P4 in the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans, celebrating the gorgeous car’s 50th anniversary.

The Macau GP Legends collection will once again exhibit in Macau in November this year.
