Blake Kuwahara Eyewear

As somewhat of an sunglasses enthusiast, I’m constantly on the lookout for new eyewear designers and silhouettes, especially with the start of summer looming on the horizon. Most recently, I came across the eponymous line from Blake Kuwahara, a designer perhaps best known as the founder and creative director of FOCUS GROUP WEST and one of the preeminent designers in eyewear today.

CFDA member Kuwahara — who first gained international acclaim as the creator and designer of the exclusive KATA Eyewear brand — launched his exclusive eponymous range of sunglasses and optical frames in Fall 2014, riffing on the idea of a “frame within a frame” as a way to “create tension through the integration of two different silhouettes.” Currently consisting of eight styles, the up-and-coming eyewear collection hints at its architectural inspirations with names such as Zaha Hadid, Le Corbusier, Tadao Ando and Frank Lloyd Wright, while also showcasing Kuwahara’s own progressive design abilities and renowned engineering and production techniques.
