Aims for new Nürburgring lap record

The Swedish supercar company Koenigsegg announced its intention to return to Germany’s legendary Nürburgring to test their One:1’s prowess. This 1,322 hp supercar’s unique name explains everything: its weight to horsepower ratio is 1:1. The One:1 carries the Swedish company’s twin-turbo 5.0-litre V8 engine, and over 1,000 Nm of torque is available from 3,000-8,000 rpm. The One:1’s specifications are expected to lift Koenigsegg to hypercar status.

Koenigsegg’s last attempt returned a lap of 7:34. Most supercar manufacturers now use the Nürburgring for testing and these lap times play a vital part in selling their creations. Speed limits were recently set for some sections of the Nordschleife due to a fatal accident during a VLN race. After careful consideration, the ban has been lifted, and the Swedish supercar manufacturer intends to break its record. Koenigsegg’s benchmark will be under 7 minutes; only a few street-legal cars have managed to meet the challenge. Lamborghini’s Aventador SV held a record of 6:59.73 and in 2013, Porsche’s new 918 Spyder lowered the record to 6:57.
