A Tales Of Two STIs
Subaru Performance-E STI concept and Performance-B STI concept

Subaru used the 2025 Japan Mobility Show to signal its performance future, unveiling a pair of STI concepts that head down two very different but equally exciting paths. One is fully electric, the other petrol-powered, and together they sketch a blueprint for how the brand intends to keep things moving in the near future.

The Performance E STI concept is Subaru’s next step into electric performance. This BEV blends dramatic, angular styling with a focus on aerodynamics and real-world usability. Without a rear wing, the body generates downforce through its sculpted surfaces, achieving a balance between long-distance cruising and sharp, motorsport-inspired handling.

Subaru has not published performance figures yet, but the broad, purposeful silhouette, the eye-catching shade of electric blue, and the gold wheels nodding to the brand’s rallying heritage all underline the vehicle’s intent. The concept also promises a driver-centric cabin with generous space and a layout designed to make electric performance feel intuitive.

For those who still prefer pistons and fuel, the Performance B STI concept would be the choice. Based on the Impreza hatchback, it has a far more aggressive appearance, complete with a towering rear wing, a classic bonnet scoop, squared-off fender flares, and dual centre-exit exhausts. Proven technologies honed over decades of rallying and road cars, such as a horizontally opposed engine and Symmetrical All Wheel Drive, can also be found here, delivering accessible performance and everyday usability.
