Swedish wood sculptor Pontus Willfors is holding his first solo exhibition “SHOP” at the DENK gallery in Los Angeles. In this exhibition, Willfors uses hardwood to recreate vehicles and objects related to transportation to re-envision their context and divest them of their implicit utility. One of the exhibition’s highlights is the life-sized Ford Falcon side-profile made of hand-carved Poplar. The classic car is now bereft of its service and associations of aspirational consumerism and presented merely as a handmade sculpture bordering on the nostalgic.
