Estonian startup Velvet Motorworks has envisioned a restomod of the Range Rover L322. While little is yet known about this new venture, the third-generation Range Rover — produced from 2001 to 2012 — remains admired for its perfect balance of rugged charm and aristocratic polish. Velvet Motorworks now aims to bring that old-school appeal into the modern era.
The company describes its approach as a “ground-up transformation.” Each build begins with a donor L322, which is stripped, refined, and reassembled to a near-obsessive standard. The goal is to recapture what made the third-gen Range Rover so special — from its commanding stance and tactile feel to its analogue charm — while introducing modern reliability, technology, and craftsmanship.
Under the bonnet, a supercharged V8 petrol engine is fine-tuned for stronger performance and paired with a selectable active exhaust system, allowing drivers to switch between stately quiet and full-blooded roar. Updated chassis tuning promises sharper on-road handling without dulling the model’s legendary off-road confidence.
The restomod draws inspiration from Range Rover heritage, with round headlights, a reworked grille, and subtle body refinements that nod to the marque’s early years. Inside, hand-finished interiors are complemented by Apple CarPlay and discreetly integrated safety tech, ensuring the car feels both timeless and thoroughly up to date.
The project remains at the concept rendering stage, but Velvet Motorworks plans to build its first prototype in Q2 2026, with limited production scheduled to begin by the end of the year in Estonia.
