Genesis has spent the past decade proving it can do luxury. Now it wants to show it can do performance, too. Enter the Genesis Magma GT Concept, unveiled at Le Castellet as the brand’s clearest signal yet that it intends to compete in the big leagues of high performance and, ultimately, GT racing.
Billed as Genesis’s first pure sports car, the Magma GT serves as a design and engineering manifesto for the next decade. The philosophy is “Effortless Performance” rather than brute force, but there’s real motorsport intent beneath the sculpted surfaces. The concept adopts a mid-rear-engine layout, which is a first for Genesis, placing it squarely within traditional GT territory. And while Genesis hasn’t confirmed what powers this dramatic silhouette, word is it could house a heavily modified V8 closely related to the GMR-001 race engine, which currently produces around 670 hp with a hybrid system. If so, the production version could pack serious firepower.
Visually, the Magma GT is one of Genesis’ most mature and motorsport-driven creations to date. A low bonnet, long sloping roofline and wide rear haunches evoke classic GT racers, while the boat-tail cabin emphasises stance and aerodynamics. Other clever details include canards integrated directly into the headlamps, functional G-Matrix aero patterns flowing from the splitter, and a mechanical two-line rear light signature that gives the car a wide, planted presence.
Genesis President and Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke describes the Magma GT as “the most complete expression of Genesis performance to date.” More than a show car, it’s a halo model set to define Genesis’ performance identity, and its long-term GT racing ambitions.
