Maserati has had its electrification plan clearly laid out since 2020, and recently the Italian manufacturer took a big step forward with a glimpse of its very first 100% electric model. Meet the Maserati Gran Turismo Folgore.
As the brand announced back in 2020, all full-electric cars will bear the “Folgore” tag in their title going forward. While the full details of Gran Turismo Folgore won’t be revealed until 2023, it’s believed that the powertrain of the next-generation GT will deliver 400kW. As if the digital images didn’t rouse our interest enough, Maserati also brought a Gran Turismo Folgore prototype to the recent Rome e-Prix race weekend, giving us a proper look at the stunning 2+2 GT silhouette.
Maserati has been taking a bullish approach to the electrification game recently and is the first Italian automaker to participate in the Formula E championship, partnering with ROKit Venturi Racing under a multi-year contract. The manufacturer also plans to offer electric versions of all its current models by 2025, and by 2030 all cars will be solely electric-powered, signalling a brand new era for the Italian automotive industry.
