A Microfilm Tribute
Slice of Life

The ’80s cinema classic, Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott, is one of the most influential and beloved sci-fi films for the genre’s fans. Recently a group of Croatian filmmakers including director Luka Hrgović produced a microfilm called Slice of Life, inspired by Ridley Scott’s original masterpiece.

The 20-minute original script microfilm is a tasteful homage to this epic. The story follows a drug dealer turned clean and a mysterious cop in the gritty future of Blade Runner’s Los Angeles.

According to the team, “Los Angeles was the perfect place for our story, but we didn’t want to just copy/paste it and shoot a replica… We wanted to pay our tribute to “Blade Runner” in terms of aesthetics and some iconic motives, while at the same time make “Slice of Life” something more than a mere fan-film or a sequel, with an unique storyline that doesn’t rely on anything seen in the “Blade Runner” universe.”

In addition, the film also pays tribute to other films of the 1980s such as Alien and Terminator. The entire film was shot using miniatures and models, animatronics, matte paintings and practical special effects, much like the original Blade Runner.

Although a large part of the movie has already been filmed, the team still has an extensive miniature shoot ahead as well as the complicated post-production process. Therefore they have launched a campaign on Kickstarter with a goal of raising $25,000 to finish full production of the film by July 2018.
