A Few Invisible Sculptures
Be Vigilant While Waiting.

This group of stills are from the creative series A Few Invisible Sculptures by Andrea Galvani which was previously exhibited at the Meulensteen gallery in New York. All the frames were carefully planned out but shot under unanticipated situations, where dramatic changes are depicted under records based off of numbers from the segments of phenomenology, in which he describes as the “Architecture of the invisible.”.

A Few Invisible Sculptures #1 is about his visit to a four hundred years old ancient quarry in Europe which provided the raw materials for terracotta warriors. He first injected fuel into steel containers in replacement to the motorcycle tank and told riders to cruise in circles until the fuel runs out. During the process, soil started splashing and gradually covered the person and the motorcycle. Almost like a way of digging, the place is now opened to the public. Higgs Ocean #5 is about him collecting energy with solar panels during his 2800 km rowing journey. The energy was used to power lights for few minutes. By using the energy on different spotlights, it resulted in a row of flashing car tires. A Cube, a Sphere, and a Pyramid #5 is about using negatives to record the flying routes of a group of bats that he had placed inside of a closed room. The result was an image that looked like a car dust jacket reflected in midnight.

Each of the phenomenon lasts very short, which is why he perceives himself as a hunter. Prepared with driving routes and notes prior every project, he can stay in a car for up to several weeks just to wait for the perfect moment to shoot. In addition to patience, speed and intuition, he also has to stay vigilant. Sudden snowstorms can transform the face of an area within a few hours; which is why this snow covered car you see here, is actually the result of a coincidental chance he has taken advantage of.

Andrea Galvani was born in Italy and now lives in Brooklyn. Involved in a wide range of creative media sectors, his works includes photography, sculpture and sound.
