A Creative Decade
‘Italo Design 1968-1978’ exhibition

In late 1960s and 1970s, the demand for custom-built cars from Italian coachbuilders was low due to owners starting to purchase directly from key automakers. Instead of serving individuals, the coachbuilders  tended to work more with Italian and even foreign brands, and the rise of car shows provide opportunities for coachbuilders  to run wild with their imagination. The Museum of Transport in Lucerne, Switzerland has collaborated with Italian collector Corrado Lopresto for showcasing some interesting vehicles from this creative period.

The Italo Design 1968-1978 exhibition recollects this era of changes from the achievements of coachbuilding studios Bertone, Ghia, Italdesign, Zagato and more. Some of the rare exhibits includes the Alfa Romeo 1750 GT by Giugiaro, Lancia Marica by Ghia, Lancia Flavia Super Sport by Zagato, Lancia Sibilo by Bertone, De Tomaso Pantera 7X by Ghia, Autobianchi Giovani by Pininfarina and the Zagato Zele electric car. Equally interesting furniture pieces from the same era are displayed alongside these vehicles, presenting a complete picture of Italy once filled with bright colour and unique shapes.
