A Classic Beauty at QUAIL LODGE
1953 Chrysler Ghia Special

Bonhams will soon be holding its 20th annual Quail Lodge Auction in conjunction with The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering 2017. The event, on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula, gathers the world’s finest and most exclusive collectors’ motorcars on the grounds of the Quail Lodge & Golf Club. With more than a hundred cars on offer, the 1953 Chrysler Ghia Special is one of the masterpieces that caught our eye.

The Ghia Special has caused hearts to beat faster ever since its unveiling at the 1952 Paris Auto Salon. There, it impressed Charles Ladouch, Chrysler’s importer in France, who thought it would be good to produce a limited-production series of the car. He then asked Italian design house Ghia to do the job. The styling firm utilised a 125.5-inch New Yorker platform with a modified semi-fastback roofline, allowing four full-sized adults to sit comfortably.

The 1953 Chrysler Ghia Special is one of the 18 cars originally made by Ghia with one-piece curved windshields (originally it was a split two-piece windshield) for private clients; the first six were for Chrysler to distribute while the remaining twelve were reserved for Ghia customers.

Look for this classic beauty at the Quail Lodge Auction on 18 Aug 2017.
