60’s Inspired
MHDSQ1 by Matthew Humphries Design

We have always been passionate about watches, and how automotive culture continually inspires watch design. As vintage racing car enthusiasts, our latest discovery is automotive-themed driving watches from British automotive designer Matthew Humphries and his label Matthew Humphries Design (MHD).

Before launching his car consultancy company in 2014, Matthew Humphries had worked for Morgan Motor Company as their chief designer and had created the Morgan Aeromax, EvaGT and New Morgan 3-Wheeler. Acknowledging both his desire to create custom watches and his knowledge taken from the automotive industry, he launched MHD watches in 2014 and presented his first MHDSQ1 collection in May 2016.

Taking design cues from the style and case shape of 60’s & 70’s driving watches, the MHDSQ1 features a Porsche 911 VDO-inspired dial as his tribute to the golden era of racing history. It has a brushed stainless steel case powered by a Japanese Miyota 2035 quartz movement. Just 300 SQ1 will be built with individually numbered certification, hand signed by Humphries and paired with an iconic leather rally strap reminiscent of that era.

Besides its in-house designed MHDSQ1 watch collection, MHD also accepts bespoke orders for one-of-a-kind custom component Seiko watches. Find out more at Matthew Humphries Design Watches website.
